Prince Philip was from the royal families of Greece and Denmark. He went to schools in Britain, France and Germany.
During the world war, Prince Philip served in the royal navy where he became a first lieutenant.

When Philip became engaged to Elizabeth II on 20th November 1947 he gave up his title and instead became known as Philip Mountbatten. The wedding ceremony took place at Westminster Abbey in London.
