Humanist Naming Ceremony
Appearance
A naming ceremony is a ceremony celebrated by some humanists to welcome a new baby. The ceremony can take place in a home, garden or park.
As part of the ceremony the parents will:
- make promises about how they will bring up the baby
- talk about the hopes and dreams they have for the baby
- talk about the type of person they hope the baby will grow up to be
Other things which can happen at the naming ceremony are:
- special readings or poems may be read out
- a naming certificate may be signed
- a meal may be shared
- a tree may be planted
