Year 1 Maths 1.2: Counting objects within 10

From My Second Brain

Tagging each object with a number word

When we count objects they are not always going to be in a nice neat line. To get around this we have to tag each object with its own number word. In this way we can make sure we count every object and don't count any twice. This also means that we can start our count with any of the objects as the ending number will always be the same.

Moving objects to help us tag every object

To help with counting it is a good idea to put the objects we're counting into a line to make it easier to count. This helps ensure we don't miss any or count objects twice.

Knowing the last number counted tells us how many altogether

When we count the last number we say (the last number word assigned to an object) tells us how many objects we have counted.
