Syllable

A syllable is a beat in a word, the easiest way to understand syllables is to feel them - put your hand under your chin and then say a word - each time your chin pushes your hand down as you read the word out loud is a syllable.

A more technical way of determining the syllables in a word first identify the vowels in the word and make a mini word around each vowel. Each mini word is syllable. This can be proved with the above hand under chin method.
