Nativity

The Christmas story is known as the nativity story. It is a good news story.

As part of the nativity story the Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary to inform her she would give birth to baby named Jesus and that Jesus would be God's son.

Jesus was born in Bethlehem and was visited by Shepherds and some time later three kings who brought gifts - gold, frankincense and myrrh.

This story helps Christians understand who Jesus is.

Deeper Meanings

The nativity story has different meanings to different Christians, some examples include:

• The nativity story shows incarnation, how Jesus was both god and human and came to rescue people
• The nativity story shows how much God loves us by sending his son Jesus to the world
• The nativity story tells us that Jesus is the light of the world, his coming brought hope.
• In the nativity story God tells the shepherds first, shepherds being some of the poorest people in society at the time shows us that God is interested in poor people.
